Inline Figure Skating and Dance

Technical elements of skating are absolutely the same on ice and on inline figure skates.

Same edges, same steps, same jumps, same spins, same attitudes, same compulsory dances, etc...

Why? Because inline figure skates have the same « curve » as ice skates.

This is why it is possible to progress on ice while training on inline figure skates, and also to progress on inline figure skates while training on ice.

An example : one of my students had to present a program in an ice competition.
I did the preparation of that student exclusively on inline figure skates (we had no ice rink where to practice).
....And my student won the competition on ice (there were ten competitors) !

I hope that ice figure skating coaches will understand that inline figure skating is a very good alternative to ice.

For the competitions the rules are same as on ice (ISU rules).
Every year since 2005 G.R.I.P. (Glace & Roller Inline de Paris) organizes the « Paris International Open of inline figure skating and dance » (first competition of this sportive discipline in the world), in which the jury is composed of ice skating international judges.

All the skaters competing in that event practice both on ice and on inline figure skates.

Even when the ice rinks are closed or too busy, artistic skaters are able to practice.

Formation of the "World Inline Figure Skating Association", WIFSA, occurred on January 30, 2010 at a meeting of coaches, skaters, and figure skating club officials at the 5th "Paris International Open of Inline Figure Skating". The founding president is Jean-Pierre Faugere of Paris.

The purpose of WIFSA is to establish the rules for inline figure skating competitions, certify judges, and promote inline figure skating.

The founding members from France, Spain, Cypress, Romania, and the United States have agreed to follow the rules and regulations established by ISU as adopted for inline figure skating by Jean-Pierre Faugere.

Skaters utilize specially designed inline skates that feature a pic at the toe of the skate. The figure skating is remarkable!

Jean-Pierre Faugere has a long history of organizing and creating skating activities. He has earned several gold and silver medals in professional ice dance. He is a 3 star certified coach for ice figure skating and dance in France.

Additionally, Mr. Faugere received the Trophy of Sport Merit of the Olympic Committee for his work at the 1968 Olympics at Grenoble.

His most recent accomplishment is the "Paris International Open of Inline Figure Skating", currently in its 6th year.

Several coaches have adopted inline figure skating as a way of creating more skating opportunities for their students.

WIFSA has sanctioned the first "World Open" in Panticosa, Spain on July 1, 2, & 3, 2011.

The first club in the United States, located in the Washington DC area, is the Capital Area Inline Figure Skating Club. You may contact them at cfamily33@verizon.net.
